When your clients request a blue nursery, you lean into it and create a thoughtfully curated space, filled with intentional design selections and just about every shade of blue. I focused on a very classic and transitional direction with whimsical accessories incorporated throughout... no detail was left untouched in this NYC project!

As soon as I received room photos from my client prior to our initial consultation call, I knew the white coffered ceiling had to be painted. We went with the colour Charlotte by Portola Paints; the most exquisite baby blue that adds such a cozy yet dramatic impact. I had the idea to mirror image the blue ceiling with a solid wool rug and to introduce my signature mix of patterns through various materials and textiles. So, I paired an incredible plaid wallpaper with a playful rounded geometric fabric, both designed by the talented Rebecca Atwood. We used the 100% belgian linen fabric for custom drapery, which accentuates the corner window and city views beautifully.

With just over 9 foot ceilings, we had the opportunity to bring in a statement beaded ceiling light and made use of the rooms’ large footprint to include a wide dresser, bookcase and cozy tweed bouclé recliner. I had fun repeating scalloped shapes, as seen in the side table, floor lamp, mirror and rattan hamper! You’ll also see a combination of stripe and floral textiles to contrast the wallpaper and drapery fabric; I especially love the subtle pinstripe crib sheet and hand-blocked floral cushion cover.

Fun art prints adorn the walls, including a poured resin heart painting by Andy Blank, a local artist from Brooklyn. I love how the wallpaper is seen through the cutout hearts, it adds such a unique touch to the room! And the playful zoo animal print hung above the crib fits in right at home with a classic felted sheep mobile.

I am beyond proud of this charming ‘beyond blue’ nursery...
