What was once an upstairs bedroom used for storage, is now a creative art and homework room! I had recently worked with this family on their daughter’s bedroom, which is shared by a jack ‘n jill bathroom — you can take a look at my petit papillon project reveal to get a glimpse of that special space. So I really wanted to make sure that both rooms felt completely unique while still maintaining a good flow between one another. For the art and homework room, we leaned right into a pastel colour palette and it’s just the happiest room ever!

The starting point for the design scheme was a rainbow ceiling light which ties in perfectly with the pastel striped wallpaper and rainbow wall tapestry — a true match made in heaven. We didn’t want the commitment of built-ins to be able to give my clients the flexibility of changing the purpose of the room down the line, so we opted for a customized DIY desk from IKEA flanked with shelving. We also added a cubby bookcase for toy storage; with a large calico critter and huge book collection, we needed all the storage we could get! The pink magnetic dry erase board is perfect for displaying artwork and school projects and the pegboard helps to organize art supplies within arm’s reach. A pink fuzzy desk chair was on my mini clients’ wish list and I love how much personality it brings to the space. We grounded the room with a blue wool rug and added a pink bean bag to provide cozy seating for reading. The end result is a bright space that is sure to inspire this budding artist!
