This busy family of four had an underutilized secondary laundry room positioned near their garage entryway, so we transformed it into the most functional and beautiful mudroom! With ample storage for coats, shoes and cleaning supplies, it’s now the perfect landing spot for a stress-free entry into their home.
Talk about a small but mighty mudroom! We were able to squeeze in so much function into this 45 square foot space while integrating a timeless design aesthetic. We incorporated a small counter area with a mirror for dropping keys, sunglasses and mail. Each family member has a designated hook above a 4 foot wide oak bench and we incorporated open cubbies with baskets off to the side to easily access kids hats and gloves. Off-season gear can be stored away in the deep upper cabinets above the bench. We even included a tall utility cabinet for brooms and cleaning supplies and a double door cabinet for hanging longer adult coats.
For the overall design, we honed in on a classic European-inspired aesthetic with rich green cabinetry and rustic floor tile—the herringbone pattern definitely gives the space a little extra character. We selected beautiful unlacquered brass hardware which will patina overtime and brought in natural materials like oak and rattan for added warmth. The end result is a cozy mudroom that has both form and function in mind.
“Thank you so much for everything Rebecca. The mudroom is incredible! It’s beyond what I expected!”
