This lovely family of four reached out for help with a full basement overhaul! It’s a great size with lots of light pouring in, but it wasn’t being utilized to its full potential. So we got right to work to thoughtfully divide the space into 4 zones; a playroom, TV entertainment area, home office and gym nook. As a first phase of the project, we focused on the playroom and furnishings for the entertainment area including a beautiful vintage patterned rug and an extra cozy movie night sofa. We will be completing the office and TV entertainment areas with custom millwork in January!

Since the basement will be getting plenty of use from the entire family, I wanted to select a timeless and comfortable colour scheme — we landed on a beautiful olive green, grey and brown palette. Even though there are many playful elements that have been carefully sourced for the kids, the space still feels calming and enjoyable for mom and dad, too. The stunning palm tree wallpaper was the perfect touch of whimsy which we paired with a chocolate brown checkered rug. We incorporated some open toy storage and a small activity table with wood chairs to provide a comfortable spot for colouring and painting. We also accounted for a cozy reading nook complete with a bean bag, book ledges and fun art prints! To add a bit more interest to the ceiling, we replaced one of the pot lights with a stylish flushmount light, which is such an easy way to ground a specific area in an otherwise very open space.

Thanks to a clever layout and purposeful product sourcing, we’ve created a space that’s now enjoyable for the whole family. Check back in the mew year for an update on the completed entertainment and office areas!
