Bohemian room designs can often be filled with bright jewel tones and busy patterns. Our aim with this project was to bring a fresh and modern take to the ever so popular desert-inspired aesthetic. With a soft sage green, blue and terracotta colour palette, and pops of black that bring contrast and a contemporary spin to the overall design, we created a nursery that feels earthy and oh so relaxed. The homeowners had already purchased all of the large pieces of furniture, so we started off by bringing purpose and organization to the space. A small shelving unit works perfectly to keep toys organized, and a few floating book ledges paired with a comfy bean bag creates the perfect reading nook. We then worked to accessorize the room with thoughtful pieces, including some adorable cacti decals which were installed in a repeat pattern across the entire feature wall to give the illusion of wallpaper. The space was in need of some warmth and contrast, so we brought in the most stunning terracotta power-loomed rug for a little extra impact. We combined and layered a variety of materials too — a rattan lamp and baskets, a macrame wall hanging, mudcloth patterned textiles, linen bedding, a leather rocking chair, oak picture frames with nature-inspired watercolour prints, a cowhide pouf and a beautiful teak side table. All intentionally selected to create a minimal, airy and serene oasis for this wonderful little guy!
