What do you do when you have three kids and an under utilized main floor dining room? You convert it to a play area! We knew we had to make this playroom extra cute and stylish because the space is fully visible from the main floor. So we chose a muted colour palette with blues, greens and mauves to coordinate with the rest of the beautiful home. There’s just enough colour in here without it feeling entirely like a kid’s playroom; it’s more of a family hangout room, if you will.

The jumping off point for the design was the stunning vintage cloud mural, which we juxtaposed with a patterned rug and neutral furnishings. We brought in a few pops of pink and mauve through accessories to jazz things up and played with various tones of olive and sage greens too, to layer in some richness.

In addition to all the thoughtfully curated decor elements, we also made sure that this space was extra functional. We incorporated an 8ft storage unit to house lots of puzzles and toys, and two table surfaces for playing and drawing. We even accounted for plenty of cozy seating with a kid’s sofa and olive green floor knot cushions.

This area has become the perfect functional space on the main floor for the kids to play while in close proximity to mom and dad. It’s a fun and inviting playroom that’s quite literally ‘down to earth’!
