It isn't every day that you get to work on a loft playroom with the most gorgeous river views! We cleared out this former living and home office area and started by establishing key play zones with function being top of mind. We mixed my go-to closed storage unit for puzzles and arts supplies as well as almost 10 feet of open storage for easily accessible and visible toy collections. We added a fun kid’s couch, dressed up an existing sofa with colourful cushions and added two activity tables to provide ample surface space for play time; a low triangular coffee table perfect for kneeling and a slightly taller kid’s table for colouring.

When it came to the design, we focused on a blue, mint green and clay colour palette to keep things vibrant yet calming — this being a loft space means the playroom is visible from the lower level as well, so that had to be kept into consideration! We made sure to bring in movement and depth through a beautiful Justina Blakeney loloi area rug, patterned textiles, and an oversized colour block art print above the piano to complement the overall colour palette.

And don’t forget about the cute accents too! A brass and taupe floor lamp, leather world map and wooden motorcycle rocker add a playful touch that’s still ‘easy on the eyes’ for adults to enjoy, too! This is now a calming family play area filled with purpose, beauty and endless function.
